Not at all. Most people don't arrive with a clear idea, and the consultation is built for exactly that. It's there to help shape the brief.
It helps to have looked at a few things first and have a sense of what you like but you don't need to have an exact direction in mind.
If you're meeting with us in person, you'll also be able to try on a wide range of samples to get a feel for different styles.

Yes. If you're flying out of New Zealand on an international flight, you can collect your jewellery duty-free at Auckland, Christchurch, or Wellington airports and save the GST. It's most worthwhile on higher-value pieces.

For Bespoke, design and sourcing usually takes one to four weeks, and production up to eight, so most run 10 to 14 weeks from first conversation to finished ring.
Customise is quicker, since the design stage is usually one to two weeks, and most are done within about 10 weeks.
If you're working to a deadline expedited production is available for a fee.
At the concept stage of a bespoke project there's no limit on revisions. That's where the big decisions get made, so we'll explore different shapes, details, and proportions side by side until it's right.
Once the concept's settled, we build it into a single production-ready 3D model and the work shifts to refining the finer details.
Yes, that's the customise path.
Take a collection design and adjust it: change the stone shape, the band, add a detail. The base price stays the same as the collection piece, and you only pay for any extra materials or labour the changes need.
Yes. As part of bespoke and customise, we render your design on a hand so you can see it to scale, and you can have a 3D-printed model to try on.
The first print is free, and any extras will cost a small amount more, we'll let you know the cost at the time.
For some engagement rings you can choose the width of the band.
2.2mm is what we recommend for solitaires. It's the most durable and suits most designs. You can go down to 2mm if you want a finer band. 1.8mm is only worth considering on designs below 1.5 carats, and even then it's not something we'd recommend. It's there as a reference so you can see the comparison. We'll steer you on what works for your design.
When people say low-set or high-set, they usually mean the profile, which is how high the ring sits off the finger. There are four

Yes. Standard engraving is available and priced on the website.
One thing to know: there's a limit to how much text fits. Past a certain length the lettering gets too small to read comfortably, so shorter tends to work better

Centre stones above 0.5ct are independently certified.
Accent and side stones aren't, since certification isn't standard at that size, but they're matched to the same grade range as the centre stone.
Yes. White gold has a slightly warm tone underneath, so it's plated in rhodium for a bright white finish. We use a palladium-based alloy, which starts off whiter and means the plating lasts longer between top-ups.

With any lab stones, yes. Any shape, size, or ratio within what's practically possible, usually at no extra cost.

Often, yes. An heirloom stone, a stone you've sourced yourself, or metal from a piece you already own, which we can give you credit for.

Yes. Your first resize is free within the first 12 months, on most designs. If you're in New Zealand, we'll cover return shipping.
If you're overseas, you'll cover shipping. There's a limit to how far a ring can be resized, which depends on the design.

We don't offer insurance ourselves. Your contents insurer is the best place to start, and they'll tell you what you need.
Yes. We don't handle the claim itself. Your claims company does that and issues the credit, but you can ask them to transfer it to us, and we'll make the replacement or repair. We work with all the major claims companies in New Zealand.

A replica of your actual ring that you can wear travelling or any time you'd rather not have the real one on. It's made from the same model as your ring, so it looks like yours, just made in lower cost materials.

Yes. Reusing an heirloom stone is a meaningful way to create something new while preserving its history.
The process begins with a consultation, where we explore how your stone could be incorporated into a new design. We will also explain the risks and limitations involved before you proceed.
Yes. We can recreate the old ring into a new setting and reuse the stone with limitations.
We can inspect a stone while it is still set, but its full condition can only be confirmed once it has been removed. Hidden chips, fractures or wear may then become visible and, in some cases, make the stone unsafe to reset.
There is also a small risk of damage during removal or setting. We take every reasonable precaution, but this risk is greater with older stones.
We take as much care as possible, but we can't take responsibility for a stone that's damaged during removal or setting. If you ask us to work with your stone, that's a risk you'll have to take.
No, and this one surprises people. Casting companies cast in batches, so the metal that goes into your ring isn't kept separate from everyone else's and there's no way for us to promise the gold in your finished piece is the gold you handed us.
The only way around that is to hand-make the ring rather than cast it, and even then, the alloy you get from melting down and remaking old gold isn't as good as starting fresh. It's not a trade-off we're willing to make. Some places will do this, so if reusing the actual metal matters to you, it's worth asking around, it's just not something we offer.
Yes. We send it to our refiner, and you're credited at the rate at the time, based on what the refiner gives us. We'll tell you the credit before you commit to anything, so there are no surprises.
We can only use stones above 2mm in size. Anything smaller is lost when the metal is melted down. So if your heirloom has small stones under 2mm you want to keep, you'll need to have them removed first and give us the empty mount.
Yes, if you want your piece properly covered. For us to hold your jewellery under our insurance, and to cover it in transit, it needs an insurance valuation. You'll need to arrange this yourself from a registered jewellery valuer and it's not something we can do for you. If you'd rather proceed without one, that's your call, but the most we can cover is NZ$100 if anything is lost, stolen, or damaged in our care or in transit. It's up to you to decide if you are ok taking the risk.
We can only take in heirloom jewellery if you can drop it off in person or ship it to us within New Zealand. We don't take in heirloom pieces from outside of New Zealand. If you've got a valuation, we'll send you a prepaid, insured label to get your piece to us safely. After that, it's handled the same way everything else is.
Yes, there will be a setting fee to use stones we haven't sourced ourselves. This applies to both heirloom stones and stones you've sourced yourself. It varies depending on the size, type, and number of stones. We'll let you know the cost when we provide an estimate.
No, we don’t repair or modify any heirloom jewellery or any jewellery where we weren’t the original makers. We can only make new jewellery. We do have some we can recommend if this is something you wanted to do, reach out and we’ll let you know.
