I was three martinis in when I met Courtney.
As a designer herself, Courtney (Founder of Pompeii Home) was telling me how she’s always been drawn to jewellery and jewellery design as an expression.
We kept talking (and kept drinking martinis) and eventually we both were like 'omg let’s do something together'.
As part of our Taste Makers series, when thinking about who we wanted to work with, one of the ideas was that it would be cool to work with someone who designs in a completely different medium to traditional jewellery. That’s when my mind flashed back to that night a few years back and thought, Courtney at Pompeii would be perfect.
So here we are, we did end up working together and this is what we’ve made.
Can you turn marble into gold?
For this series, we always to lean into the tastes and design sensibilities of the Creative we’re working with. Similar to how we work with our clients.
For Pompeii, Courtney’s pieces are sculptural and interesting but not to a point where they overpower a space. Taking this design philosophy and applying it to jewellery, we centred our design around a couple of core ideas.
First, based on their sculptural form, Courtney thought that bangles would be the perfect type of jewellery to create. We loved this direction.
Second, for the designs themselves, we wanted to take inspiration from the forms and movement you would find in a beautiful piece of Calacatta marble, a core anchor of Pompeii’s pieces.
We eventually landed on two organic bangle designs that either can be worn individually or layered together. The bangles are meant to feel interesting and considered, but still something that can be worn everyday and will fit in with the rest of your wardrobe.
They're constructed to be solid all the way through with a deliciously weighty feel to them. We designed them without a clasp and they can slip over your hand and sit loose and effortlessly on the wrist.
