There isn’t a correct choice, it’s mostly about what you like and what feels natural alongside the jewellery you already wear.
Most people have a preference but if you or the person you're buying for is unsure, it's best to try the different metal colours on and see what feels right.

Use the flowchart below to choose the right metal for your ring.
If you prefer yellow or rose tones, we generally recommend 18k gold. If you prefer a white metal, platinum is usually the best choice.
If the design you want stretches beyond your budget in 18k gold or platinum, the first lever we recommend pulling is switching to 14k gold. It can bring the price down with relatively little compromise.
We generally recommend 9k gold only when budget is the deciding factor, as the trade-offs become more noticeable.

For selected jewellery styles, such as necklaces, bangles, earrings and others, we also offer Sterling Silver and Gold Vermeil. These options make the piece more accessible than solid gold, but there some things to consider.
Sterling silver is the most cost-effective precious metal option we offer, giving you the look of a white metal without the price of solid gold or platinum.
Silver is softer than our solid gold and platinum options, so it will generally show scratches and signs of wear more readily. It can also naturally tarnish over time, although this can be easily cleaned and polished to restore its finish.
We rhodium plate our sterling silver pieces to give them a harder, brighter surface and help slow down tarnishing. It adds a little to the cost, but we think it’s well worth it.
Sterling silver is a great choice for everyday jewellery at a more accessible price point.
Gold vermeil gives you the appearance of yellow gold at a lower price by applying a thicker layer of 18k gold over a sterling silver base.
The gold layer used for vermeil is considerably thicker than standard gold plating, so it will generally wear more slowly. However, because it is still a plated finish, over time friction and everyday wear will gradually wear through the gold and the silver underneath may begin to show.
The good news is that we can replate your piece for a small cost to restore its gold finish.
Gold vermeil is our favourite alternative for achieving the look of yellow gold without the cost of going fully solid gold.
Ring sizing is not an exact science. Your fingers naturally change size throughout the day and across different seasons, so you may not have one fixed ring size all year round.
Fit is also a matter of personal preference. Some people prefer their ring to feel secure and snug, while others like a little more room.
Ideally, it should move over the knuckle with slight resistance and sit comfortably at the base of your finger.

Letter and number sizing can vary between countries, sizing systems and jewellery brands. The most consistent measurement is the ring’s internal diameter in millimetres.
If you get your ring sized elsewhere, ask for the internal diameter in millimeters.
If you already have a ring that fits the same finger well, measure straight across the inside of the ring at its widest point, from one inside edge to the other.
You can then use the chart below to find the corresponding ring size.

For solitaire rings, you can choose your preferred band width depending on how delicate or substantial you want the ring to look.
Our default recommendation is 2.2mm. It offers a good balance of refinement, durability and proportion. All images of this ring on this page show the 2.2mm band width, so if you do not have a strong preference, we recommend choosing this option.
The image below shows how each of our available band widths looks with a 2.0ct center diamond.
Our finest option. It works best with diamonds of 1.0ct or below when you want a very delicate look.
While a 1.8mm band is strong enough when properly made, if you prefer a danity look we generally recommend choosing a slightly wider 2.0mm band for added substance and long-term wear, particularly if your centre stone is larger than 1.0ct.
A good choice if you want a dainty setting with slightly more substance than a 1.8mm band.
We generally recommend this option for a delicate look, particularly when choosing a centre stone above 1.0ct.
Our default recommendation for most rings. It still looks refined while giving the setting a balanced and sturdy foundation.
It works well with all centre-stone sizes, and this is the width most people prefer when trying on rings.
A good choice if you prefer a more substantial band with a sturdier feel and stronger presence on the hand.
It can also create a more balanced proportion when paired with a centre stone larger than 2.5ct.
Because every ring is finished and polished by hand, the final band width may vary by approximately 0.05–0.1mm from the measurements shown above.
Prongs are the pieces of metal in the setting that hold the centre stone in place, they need to be pushed over the stone to keep everything secure.
When these are pushed over the diamond setter finishes the ends by hand and you can choose the style of finish you prefer. This only affects the overall appearance, rather than how securely the stone is set.
The image shows all three options on one stone so you can compare them directly.
A smooth, rounded prong that appears like a small bead of metal. Choose this for the most traditional and minimalist look. This is the top prong on the image above.
A longer, tapered prong that finishes in a defined point. Choose this if you prefer a sculptural look. This is the bottom right prong on the image above.
A gently tapered prong with a softer point. It gives you the definition of a claw without looking overly sharp and bit more minimal. This is the left right prong on the image above.
This is our default recommendation because it works well across most stone shapes and ring designs.
Stay with Soft Claw. It is most common option and sits neatly between the sharper Claw and softer Round styles.
If you have another prong style in mind that isn't listed here, contact us and we can likely accomodate it or let you know why not.
The final size and proportions of your prongs will be adjusted by the diamond setter to ensure security.
Choose the type of accent stone.
These are the smaller stones in the design, separate from the feature stone or stones you’ll choose in the next step.
We generally recommend using the same stone type for your accent and feature stones. You can however, choose a lower-priced option to reduce the overall cost.
You only need to select the type. We’ll match the colour and quality so the stones look consistent across the ring.
We’ve recommended three diamonds based on the type, shape and size you selected.
Each offers a different balance of price and grades, with What We’d Pick as our recommendation for most people.
At each tier, we’ve automatically selected the lowest-priced diamond that meets our criteria, so you don’t need to hunt through the full list.
The lowest-priced diamond we’d be happy to use. Every stone is eye-clean and faces up colourless.
The trade-off is sparkle. These diamonds aren’t filtered as tightly for light return, so they won't be the top of the range of sparkle.
The best-looking diamond to the naked eye, without paying more for grades you won’t see. It’s filtered for the best light return and is the option we’d recommend to a friend.
For most people, this is the one to choose.
The top end of the colour and clarity grades, with the same excellent light return. It will look the same as a What We’d Pick diamond once set in the finished ring.
Choose this tier if having the highest grades matters to you, even when the difference isn’t visible with the naked eye.

Choosing the right carat weight isn’t about finding the biggest stone. It’s about finding one that looks balanced on your hand and feels right for you.
As a general starting point, most of our clients choose a 1.5ct or 2.0ct centre stone. These sizes tend to suit a wide range of hands and preferences.
If you can’t visit us, get in touch and we can send you a 3D-printed version of your ring in the carat size you’re considering. There’s a small cost to cover the print and shipping, which we’ll credit towards your ring if you go ahead.
You can also use DiamDB’s diamond size simulator to compare different stone sizes, finger sizes and band widths online.
Carat is a measure of weight, rather than visible size. Because diamonds, moissanites and sapphires have different densities, stones of the same physical size won’t necessarily have the same carat weight.
To make comparison easier, we list non-diamond gemstones using Diamond Equivalent Weight (DEW). This means a moissanite or lab-grown sapphire listed as 2.0ct will look approximately the same size as a 2.0ct diamond, even though its actual weight may be different.

Because our bangles are solid, they need to comfortably pass over the widest part of your hand. Measure your hand rather than your wrist to find your size.
Bring your fingers together and tuck your thumb into your palm, as though you're about to slide on a bangle. Using a soft measuring tape, measure snugly around the widest part of your hand, including your thumb knuckle. Note the measurement at the point of overlap.

Between sizes? We recommend sizing up. Your bangle should pass over your knuckles with gentle resistance, without needing to be forced.
No measuring tape?
Wrap a piece of non-stretch string around your hand, mark where the ends meet, then measure it against a ruler.
